Audi e-tron prototype: preview of the first purely electrically powered model from the brand

Report: Entire Audi Line Up To Get E-Tron Variant by 2020

Audi has big plans for electrifying entire lineup.

The German automaker Audi has confirmed this week that by 2020 all of the models in the lineup will have an e-tron variant. By “e-tron” Audi refers to those cars that are capable of traveling long distances while using only electric power.

If they will reach this objective, Audi predicts that these e-tron cars will be sold in more than 100,000 units. For now, they only have a bunch of prototypes conducting tests in different parts of the world. These upcoming production models will be available with various electric drive technologies, such as battery-powered EVs and extended-range vehicles.

The first in the e-tron production model series is going to be the R8 e-tron which will go on sale later on this year. It has two electric motors that generate 308 hp (230 kW) and 605 lb-ft (820 Nm) of torque. These are powered by a 49 kWh lithium-ion battery that allows the vehicle to do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 4.6 seconds, before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h). The R8 e-tron promises to provide a range of up to 134 miles (215 km).
